A Little Winter Magic.
Playing it cool since 1964.
Dreamed up in 1963 and officially launched in 1964, Bon Soo has grown into Northern Ontario’s largest winter carnival! Our beloved mascot was created by local artist Ken MacDougall and named by elementary school student Donald Norman. Powered by passionate volunteers and a whole lot of community spirit, Bon Soo continues to bring people together for a week of frosty fun, unforgettable memories and winter magic!
The Mascot
Standing six feet tall with rosy-red cheeks, a red toque and a big red coat, Mr. Bon Soo has been spreading winter magic since 1963! Every February, our beloved snowball returns to Sault Ste. Marie for 10 days of fun, laughter and a little mischief, bringing the whole community together to celebrate winter!

But when the carnival ends, Mr. Bon Soo mysteriously disappears until next year. Where does he go? What adventures await? Nobody really knows! One thing’s for sure, wherever Mr. Bon Soo goes, a little winter magic is never far behind!
